E-Mail Me!
My Stuff

I
recently upgraded to a
Blackberry 8700g.
Email, cellphone, web
access, and PDA all-in-one.

I
love Canon digicams.
I had an S330, then an S230,
now an SD400. They're solidly
made, they take great pictures,
and they're ultra-portable.

I've gone back to the
dark
side. I once
again have an iPod.
This time it's a 60gb
iPod Photo.

The
Dell Latitude D620
is my current work laptop.
It's a cleanly designed
Centrino Duo machine with
amazing battery
life and a nice screen.

My home laptop is a
15" Apple MacBook Pro
dual-booting both Mac OS X
and Windows XP. Hooray for
Boot Camp!

I recently upgraded to
a 20"
Dell 2001fp LCD.
It has great
image quality, and
convenient
USB ports on the side.

My current
PC is
a P4 system based on an Intel
D915GAG motherboard in an Antec
Sonata II case. 200gb Seagate
SATA hard drive, nVidia GeForce
6600GT video card, SB Live 5.1,
and NEC DVD-RW drive.

Just
like with digicams,
I like Canon inkjet printers. My
i860 is quiet, fast, and produces
first-class color prints.

Not
much to say here.
If you're an aviation enthusiast
and you have a fast PC,
go buy FS2004 now.

If
you get hooked on
flight sims like I did, you'll want
a good flight controller. The
CH Products Flight Sim Yoke USB
is probably the best all-around
flight controller out there.
It ain't cheap, though....

| In case anyone needed any more proof that the Internet has killed print journalism.... Back on February 28th, I decided that I would like a subscription to The Atlantic Monthly magazine--the real dead trees magazine. It supposedly contains very interesting articles on a regular basis, and besides, Gregg Easterbrook is a regular contributor. So, I searched online for a good deal on a subscription, and I ended up at netmagazines.com. I created an account, found the magazine, and placed an order. The order details explain that you should "wait 6-12 weeks for your first issue to arrive (standard publisher delay times)". Well, it has been exactly four months to the day--so let's say 16 weeks. How can it be that they aren't able to get a copy of that publication into my hands in four months? I had forgotten that I had ordered it, then saw an ad for The Atlantic Monthly on some other website and remembered that I should have gotten it by now. So anyway, what I'm trying to do right now is cancel and get my $15 back, partially because I'm cranky about the sluggish delivery, but mostly because in principle, the Internet kicks the print media's butt in terms of the prompt, reliable delivery of interesting information.

I'm really getting into Mac ownership. Since my MacBook Pro is my only PC right now, I went ahead and connected it to my 20" LCD, and bought a bluetooth keyboard and mouse to use with it. That way, when I'm sitting at my desk, I have all the benefits and comforts of a desktop PC. While I have Boot Camp installed and Windows XP available, I haven't booted into WinXP in over a week. Everything I do in the Mac OS is so simple and troublefree. I've settled into a nice routine with Firefox for my web browser, Thunderbird for E-mail, iTunes for music, MSN Messenger for IM, and Unison for my newsreader. I still haven't found the right program for photo management, since I can't stand iPhoto. I would love to have Picasa for the Mac OS.....
Anyway, here's a shot of my current desktop.

There's some shady looking dude in a Corolla parked across the street from my house. He's been there, then gone, then back, then gone, then back again this evening. He's clearly up to no good. If something should happen to me in the next few hours, start your questioning with this Corolla-driving deviant:

I got an email from one of the many I.T. magazines that I get, and it explained the reasons why I should go through the trouble to renew. Among them:
This $129 value is yours at NO COST! We haven’t received an updated form from you since August 20005 and if you RENEW NOW you won’t hear from us again until June 2007!
Haven't heard from me since 20005? Wow.... |
| I was talking to a friend about french fries -- really good ones -- and it led me to discover that there's a European-style fry place in Bremerton, just an hour away. I'm seriously going to visit the place this weekend. Oh yes.
